The Big Deal

The Shreddery: Key Settings (AKA "Why Your Chords Look Weird")

Wanna make your chords stop lookin' like alphabet soup? This is where the magic happens, bestie. Buckle up.

Chord Flavor

Pick how you want your chords to flex by default when you yeet new songs into OnSong. Choose your vibe:

  • Alpha — chords go full A-G alphabet energy (with sharp/flat attitude). The boring default.
  • Nashville — chords become numbers 1-7 based on where they hang out in the key. Very Music City of you.
  • Roman — chords dress up as Roman numerals (I, ii, iii, IV, V, vi, vii) based on their key position. So sophisticated. We're impressed.
  • Solfege — chords go full Latin do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti based on key position. Your elementary school music teacher has entered the chat.

Solfege Type

Using the Solfege chord style (do, re, mi, ...)? This decides where "do" is gonna plant itself on the root chord.

  • Locked Do — "do" is ALWAYS the C note. Period. Non-negotiable. If your song's in D, welp, the D chord is now "re". Surprise!
  • Movable Do — "do" chills as whatever the root chord is. Key of D? Cool, D is now "do". Much more chill.

Theoretical Keys

The key chooser's got the basic keys hangin' out by default. Wanna get WEIRD & unlock keys with like, a million sharps or flats? Flip this on. Nerds only. (Default: off.)

Transpose Vibe Check

How do YOU wanna pick keys? Pick your poison:

  • Buttons (adjacent) — keys line up all cozy-like based on the circle of fifths. The default. Play it safe.
  • Buttons (chromatic) — keys go A-B-C alphabetical. So organized. Your mom's proud.
  • Slider — the OG OnSong slider situation. Vintage energy.
